A pattern with a thousand years of history. The Mimbreno designs are drawn from the pottery of the ancient Mimbres people, who lived in the river valleys of southwestern New Mexico from roughly 1000 to 1130 CE. Their black-on-white ceramic art is among the most celebrated in the prehistoric American Southwest.
Designed by Mary Colter for the Fred Harvey Company. In 1937, architect and designer Mary Colter commissioned the Mimbreno pattern for the dining cars of the Santa Fe Railway's Super Chief, the luxury passenger train between Chicago and Los Angeles. The pattern ran on that train for 34 years.
The black and white colorway. HF Coors introduced this colorway as a contemporary expression of the Mimbres graphic tradition. Bold, high-contrast, and graphic, it brings the ancient designs into a modern visual register while staying true to the original motifs.
Handcrafted in Tucson, Arizona. HF Coors is the authorized manufacturer of Mimbreno reproductions. Every piece is made in Tucson from American clay by craftspeople who have been doing this since 1925. Start to finish, in the USA.

The Mimbreno deer mug in black and white is a 15-ounce ceramic mug that carries one of the most significant design traditions in American history. The deer is among the most recurring subjects in Mimbres pottery, depicted in profile with the geometric body patterning characteristic of the style. This motif was found on burial pottery excavated from sites along the Mimbres River in southwestern New Mexico. At 15 ounces, the mug gives the motif full room to read. The black and white colorway gives the ancient design maximum graphic contrast.
