Oval Serving Platter - Mimbreno Deer Black & White

The Mimbreno oval serving platter in black and white features the deer motif at full serving scale. The deer is among the most recurring subjects in Mimbres pottery, depicted in profile with the geometric body patterning characteristic of the style. This motif was found on burial pottery excavated from sites along the Mimbres River in southwestern New Mexico. At platter scale, the motif reads with the full graphic power of the Mimbres tradition. The black and white colorway gives the design maximum contrast and clarity.
