Mimbreno
The Mimbreno pattern has one of the most documented origin stories in American dinnerware. In the 1930s, the Fred Harvey Company commissioned designer Mary Colter to create a pattern for the dining cars of the Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railway's Super Chief -- the train that connected Chicago to Los Angeles and became one of the most celebrated passenger routes in American history. Colter drew from the pottery of the ancient Mimbres people of the Southwest, translating their bold black-and-white geometric and figurative designs onto ceramic dinnerware. The result was a pattern that carried a thousand years of artistic tradition into the mid-century American dining experience.
HF Coors has been the authorized manufacturer of the Mimbreno pattern for decades, producing it in Tucson, Arizona, with the same vitrified ceramic construction used across the entire line. The MIMBRENO mark is a licensed mark owned by BNSF Railway Company, the successor to the Santa Fe. Every piece HF Coors makes is faithful to the original design and built to the same restaurant-grade standards that made the pattern a fixture of fine rail dining.
The collection is available in multiple colorways -- the original black and white, maroon and white, and others -- in full sets and open-stock individual pieces. All pieces are lead-free, dishwasher safe, microwave safe, oven and broiler safe, and freezer safe.
