Mimbreno

The Mimbreno pattern has one of the most documented origin stories in American dinnerware. In the 1930s, the Fred Harvey Company commissioned designer Mary Colter to create a pattern for the dining cars of the Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railway's Super Chief -- the train that connected Chicago to Los Angeles and became one of the most celebrated passenger routes in American history. Colter drew from the pottery of the ancient Mimbres people of the Southwest, translating their bold black-and-white geometric and figurative designs onto ceramic dinnerware. The result was a pattern that carried a thousand years of artistic tradition into the mid-century American dining experience.

HF Coors has been the authorized manufacturer of the Mimbreno pattern for decades, producing it in Tucson, Arizona, with the same vitrified ceramic construction used across the entire line. The MIMBRENO mark is a licensed mark owned by BNSF Railway Company, the successor to the Santa Fe. Every piece HF Coors makes is faithful to the original design and built to the same restaurant-grade standards that made the pattern a fixture of fine rail dining.

The collection is available in multiple colorways -- the original black and white, maroon and white, and others -- in full sets and open-stock individual pieces. All pieces are lead-free, dishwasher safe, microwave safe, oven and broiler safe, and freezer safe.

Mimbreno Fred Harvey Railroad Dinnerware Collection

About HF Coors Mimbreno

Mimbreno is one of the most precisely documented patterns in American dinnerware history. In the 1930s, the Fred Harvey Company commissioned designer Mary Colter to create a pattern for the dining cars of the Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railway's Super Chief. Colter drew from the pottery of the ancient Mimbres people of the Southwest, translating their bold black-and-white geometric and figurative designs onto ceramic. HF Coors produces Mimbreno today as a faithful reproduction of that original commission, made in Tucson with the same vitrified ceramic construction used across the entire line. The pattern is available in multiple colorways, each one true to Colter's original design intent.

A Pattern That Carries American History

To own a piece of Mimbreno is to own a piece of American design history. The pattern rewards knowing the story behind it, but it works just as well for people who simply appreciate a bold, graphic design with genuine American roots. The original black and white, maroon and white, and other colorways are each a faithful reproduction of the design that Mary Colter created for the Super Chief. Mimbreno pairs naturally with HF Coors solid white pieces for a table that is clean and historically grounded.

Built for Daily Use, Designed to Last

Every piece in the Mimbreno collection is fully certified lead-free and food-safe, meeting both FDA and California Prop 65 standards. The vitrified ceramic construction, the same process used across the entire HF Coors line since 1925, means these pieces will not absorb odors, stains, or bacteria over time. The glaze is fired at high temperature to resist chipping and fading through years of regular use. All pieces are dishwasher safe, microwave safe, oven and broiler safe, and freezer safe. No special handling required.

Sets, Open-Stock, and Everything In Between

The Mimbreno collection is available in multiple colorways, in full sets and open-stock individual pieces, all made in Tucson, Arizona. Build the table you want one piece at a time, or start with a full set and add as you go. This is dinnerware with nearly a century of American history behind it and the construction to last another century.
