A pattern with a thousand years of history. The Mimbreno designs are drawn from the pottery of the ancient Mimbres people, who lived in the river valleys of southwestern New Mexico from roughly 1000 to 1130 CE. Their black-on-white ceramic art is among the most celebrated in the prehistoric American Southwest.
Designed by Mary Colter for the Fred Harvey Company. In 1937, architect and designer Mary Colter commissioned the Mimbreno pattern for the dining cars of the Santa Fe Railway's Super Chief, the luxury passenger train between Chicago and Los Angeles. The pattern ran on that train for 34 years.
The black and white colorway. HF Coors introduced this colorway as a contemporary expression of the Mimbres graphic tradition. Bold, high-contrast, and graphic, it brings the ancient designs into a modern visual register while staying true to the original motifs.
Handcrafted in Tucson, Arizona. HF Coors is the authorized manufacturer of Mimbreno reproductions. Every piece is made in Tucson from American clay by craftspeople who have been doing this since 1925. Start to finish, in the USA.
Restaurant-grade durability. Vitrified ceramic construction resists chips, fading, and staining. Lead-free, dishwasher safe, microwave safe, oven and broiler safe, and freezer safe.

The Mimbreno ice cream shell is a ceramic dessert bowl in the shell form that was part of the original Fred Harvey dining car service. Maroon Big Horn Sheep

Living in Santa Fe, NM, I’m familiar with the Harvey Museum in Belen.

I have yet to go but plan a trip down in April. In the meantime, I found the Big Hirn Sheep bowl with original box at a thrift store in town and LOVE IT.

We’re planning to move to Tucson later this year, and HF Coors factory store will be o e of our 1st stops once we’re settled.
